LAS Research Showcase
LAS 3990 students spent the winter 2021 term immersed in a service-learning experience at the Mercy Education Project and Peer Health Exchange. Specifically, they facilitated lessons on health in Spanish and English to students at Cesar Chavez Academy Middle School (through Peer Health Exchange) and activities on STEM and mental health for young girls in Detroit (through Mercy Education Project).
Student teams presented research projects where they contextualized their experience and site placement within a larger community framework, examined the needs of the populations being served, implications of current service-delivery models, and ideas for how students can help address community challenges as professionals in their respective fields.
This event was sponsored by Ford Community Corps and the WSU Learning Communities Office.
